As we all know it's no secret that former UFC welterweights Matt Hughes and Matt Serra don't like each other and they are both dying to get this grudge match on. They were rival coaches last year at The Ultimate Fighter season 6 show last year and they were supposed to meet this past December a few weeks after the TUF 6 finale at UFC 79, but Serra who was the welterweight champion at the time could not compete due to a back injury he sustained. This year there was hope that Hughes and Serra would get it on then, but Hughes injured his knee in his UFC 85 bout with welterweight top contender Thiago Alves, so now Hughes is out for the rest of 2008.
In an interview with
PWB Podcast (Pro Wrestling and MMA interviews) he talks about the knee injury and his pending fight with Matt Serra. Here is a little something he had to say,
“Right now, I’ve talked to Joe Silva quite a few times and we’re looking at maybe January. He has told me it’s going to be Matt Serra, so I’m looking at January or February. That’ll give my knee plenty of time to heal, if [it heals] natural. If I have to go under the knife, I don’t know what my time frame will be but we’ll see. Right now we’re looking like January.”Until then there will be nothing but indirects and verbal jabs being thrown until they finally get this settled in the Octagon.
