UR Dirt E "Quick Fix"


- Last week we put up an article about a possible UFC 89 matchup between Brandon "The Truth" Vera and Keith Jardine. Now according to UFC officials thefight has now been confirmed, so that means that Brandon Vera will be staying at 205 a little bit longer as he gets set to face a tougher challenge in Jardine who lost to Wanderlei Silva back at UFC 84 and will look to get back in the win column.

-In a report from MMAjunkie.com the UFC has signed newcomer Jon Jones (6-0) a fighter from the northeast based Team BombSquad will replace Tomasz Drwal at UFC 87 to take on former IFL star Andre Gusmao (5-0). Razak Al- Hussan who was originally supposed to take Drwal's place had verbally agreed to take the fight, but has since pulled out due to a chest injury. Jones is just only 20 years old, but recently won a national championship in wrestling at Iowa Central Community College and is now a UFC fighter.

- According to Dave Carmichael of the Carmichael Dave Show on KHTK Sacramento, California he says that Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith appears to have broken one of his hands during his fight this past Saturday at EliteXC's "Unfinished Business" against "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler. That would explain his inactivity during the second round of the fight. Smith is scheduled to have surgery on Wednesday.

-According to MMAjunkie.com WEC featherweight contender Cub Swanson (12-2) will not be able to compete at WEC 35 in his matchup with Hiroyuki Takaya (9-5-1) due to a hand injury suffered while training. In his place will be former IFL fighter L.C. Davis (10-1). Davis who is the latest IFL defector to sign with Zuffa was a part of Pat Miletich's Iowa fight team for the now defunct organization and sported a 3-1 record with his only loss coming to Featherweight Champion Waggney Fabiano. WEC 35 will take place at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on August 5 live on Versus.
