Nick Diaz was pulled out of Dream 5 for a potential fight with KJ Noons as we reported first EliteXC officials were chomping at the bit one day after the two got into it last month to get a rematch for their second show on CBS. Diaz seemed 100% sure the fight was taking place a week later when we interviewed him and he told us "I want that bitch to come to Stockton". Diaz even told us that EliteXC officials had pulled him out of his fight with Hayato "Mach" Sakurai in order to have him fight Noons. To Diaz's dismay he missed on an anticipated rematch with KJ Noons for the EliteXC Lightweight Championship and a shot to face "Mach" Sakurai at Dream 5.
The fight at Dream 5 on July 21 was supposed to be for the welterweight Championship, so many fans were naturally disappointed when the fight was called off. Diaz had already beaten Japanese favorite Takanori Gomi at Pride 33 in Las Vegas, so many fans were eager to see how he would fare against Sakurai. Now the fight instead of being fully canceled is being pushed back to Dream 6 on September 23, so fans will now rejoice in the fact that they will be able to see this match up.
