Affliction to use unified rules, Attencio comments on Couture

More details of Affliction's debut MMA show banned were released today as MMAweekly.com announced that the July 19 show will use the unified MMA rules. Before you jump to any conclusions elbows will be legal. Unlike Strikeforce and the IFL which do not allow elbows to the head on the ground Affliction will allow them as an offensive weapon for their fighters. This may be used as a offensive weapon for Tim Sylvia who would have been put to a major disadvantage without them and a Octagon or cage. Affliction will take place in a cage and there is little doubt the decision had to do with Fedor's experience in one.

In other news Affliction VP Tom Atencio when asked by Fiveouncesofpain.com's Gary Herman confirmed he has interest in the current UFC Heavyweight Champion and Fedor's proposed fight under the Affliction banner. "Yes, that’s the fight everyone wants to see,” said Atencio, “That’s the dream fight. Randy doesn’t want to fight anyone else."
It would be a very interesting turn of events if Couture was released from his contract by a courts ruling and fought for Affliction, especially if he fought Fedor in a superfight the UFC could not make happen. This would be a huge chip for Affliction in MMA's major ever evolving high stakes poker game for fans and money. Where one minute your up and doing great and the next your a bust like WFA and the IFL.

MMAweekly.com is reporting that Affliction has also signed former UFC fighter Edwin Dewees to a multi fight deal.
