Staff picks for Affliction: Banned

The upstart promotion will unveil it's inaugural event at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Ca. with former Pride Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko taking on former UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia for the vacant WAMMA Championship. The card is incredibly stacked with a lot of great fighters in the MMA world.

Here are our picks for the event:
Main Card
Fedor Emelianenko (27-1) vs Tim Sylvia (26-5)
Nelo's pick - Fedor Emelianenko by 2nd Rd. submission (armbar). This is a pretty tough pick. Sylvia was impressive in his last fight with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira back at UFC 81, but Fedor is just as good as Sylvia. I see Fedor putting Sylvia on the ground at some point in the fight and wearing him down and eventually find a way to get the "Maine - iac" to tap.

Narcisist's pick- Fedor by armbar. Sylvia has shown in the past he has let himself get caught in submissions with his arms against submissions specialists.

Andrei Arlovski (14-5) vs Ben Rothwell (33-5)
Nelo's pick - Andrei Arlovski by 1st Rd. TKO (punches). Arlovski will utilize his new boxing skills under Freddie Roach in this one. This will be a very tough matchup for Rothwell to overcome with Arlovski finding the opening he needs to end this fight early.

Narcisist's pick- Arlovski by decision. He is a counter puncher and if Rothwell is agressive I can see him being knocked out in this fight. I wouldnt count Rothwell out in this fight though he has a lot to prove fighting Arlovski who is his first big challenge.

Josh Barnett (25-5) vs Pedro Rizzo (16-7)
Nelo's pick - Josh Barnett by unanimous decision. Another hard fought battle here, but Barnett will just overwhelm Rizzo with his size and strength. I don't see Rizzo getting a clean shot to KO the "Baby Faced Assassin".

Narcisist's pick- Barnett by decision, he finally gets his revenge.

Renato "Babalu" Sobral (29-7) vs Mike Whitehead (23-6)
Narcisist's pick - Babalu by submission.

Nelo's pick - Babalu by split decision. Although Whitehead has underrated skills and could really give Sobral trouble; Babalu is just a lot more talented overall and should come away with this one.

Matt Lindland (20-5) vs Fabio Negao (8-3)

Nelo's pick - Matt Lindland by unanimous decision. Negao has good jiu jitsu skills, but Negao is prone to takedown and that is where Lindland will more than likely take the fight; thus gaining the victory.

Narcisist's pick - Matt Lindland by decision. No brainer.
