Rich Franklin to move up in weight to fight Matt Hamill at UFC 88.

Yesterday we put up a report by way of mmajunkie.com that former UFC Middleweight Champion Rich "Ace" Franklin (23-3) could be making an appearance at UFC 88: Breakthrough at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Ga. Sept 6, but now it looks to be more certain that he will be at the event as it seems the UFC might have found him an opponent in Matt "The Hammer" Hamill (4-1). Hamill as we all know is a light heavyweight, so it appears to be more of a fact that Franklin will put on the extra 20lbs to fight at light heavyweight.
This could be a very interesting matchup with Franklin's unorthodox striking and Hamill's aggressive wrestling ability and much improved stand up game. Both fighters are coming off bounce back victories with Franklin beating Travis Lutter at UFC 83 by 2nd round TKO (strikes) and Hamill defeating Tim Boetsch also by way of 2nd round TKO (punches).

Franklin would be the second middleweight in less than a month to take a fight at 205lbs. as current UFC Middleweight Champ Anderson "The Spider" Silva will take on James "The Sandman" Irvin at UFN 14.
