Patrick Cote Vs Almeida for number 1 contender after Okami confirmed.

Anderson Silva
When rumors of Anderson Silva wanting to fight Roy Jones began to make their way around shortly after his win over Dan Henderson at UFC 82. The division had been pretty much cleared out for him and its safe to say a fighter of his stature wanted to be challenged. As we all know Silva is already beginning to challenge himself by moving up 20 pounds in weight to fight James Irvin at UFN-14 on July 19. Another interesting piece of information was that Dana White would not let Anderson fight against Jones in fear of their Champion losing credibility in a loss. So to make it up to him he agreed to let him fight more often than he was now. Since it was confirmed he was going to fight at UFN-14 at 205 pounds there was much speculation as to whether Anderson would ever defend his Middleweight Championship again. Who officially was the number 1 contender to Silva's crown was also in question.

That situation was clarified at the UFC press conference today by Dana White, “Ricardo Almeida and Patrick Cote are going to fight on Saturday night and see who's next in line for Anderson Silva's 185-pound title". When talking about Silva possibly fighting again in September at UFC 88 in Atlanta. When asked about Yushin Okami being a pssible opponent White simply said "Yeah".

This should prove to be an interesting situation throughout the year if Silva actually does fight 3 to 5 times a year. This could be a positive thing which makes Silva the UFC's biggest star especially if he can fight four to five times in a year and go undefeated. It can also have the reverse effect if he splits his fights or possibly losses two in a row. The only way to know for sure is to sit back watch and enjoy seeing him in action all year round. This should be a treat to see for all MMA fans.
