Nate Marquardt likely to fill UFC 88 main card against Martin Kampmann

In a move to help bolster the main card even further for the upcoming UFC 88: Breakthrough event in September the UFC will most likely add a middleweight bout that would pair Nate Marquardt (26-8-2) taking on Martin Kampmann (16-2).

Not only would this be a great matchup; it could definitely change the shape in the 185 pound division with Yushin Okami not being able to take his place in line for a title shot due to a broken hand, so with Okami out of the picture at the moment Patrick Cote will be next in line to face Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva at UFC 90 in Chicago. Could this possibly be an opportunity for these two fighters to get a future title shot? Maybe. Nobody knows for sure but Dana White and/or Joe Silva. Both Marquardt and Kampmann last competed back in June at UFC 85 with Marquardt losing in controversial fashion to Thales Leites do to point deductions being taken away by referee Herb Dean during the bout. Meanwhile; Kampmann was very impressive in his submission victory over Jorge Rivera.

The two have agreed to take the fight with each other and an official announcement could be made as early as next week. UFC 88: Breakthrough will take place at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, GA. September 6 live on pay per view.
