For those of you that missed Dream 5 Monday Morning. Eddie Alvarez followed up his fight of the year caliber performance at Dream 4 against (Lightweight tournament winner ) Joachim Hansen with another Fight of the year caliber performance against Tatsuya Kawajiri. I will admit I did not get to see the severity of Alvarez's eye until late last night. I had to see the fight by other means after my DVR's hard drive burned out the day before and I had to wait until I got a replacement and the event was replayed on HDNet. I did not see any pictures today or yesterday of Alvarez's injury so I decided to take some pictures to show my visitors.
The following pictures are of the punch that Kawajiri threw at Alvarez's eye. It was a tight right hook at Alvarez's face. The punch missed its target but the point of the elbow caught his nose and the corner of his right eye as you can see in the 3rd picture.

As you can see these pictures came live from JapanAs we all know Alvarez was not able to go on to fight Shinya Aoki, but said if he wanted anyone to replace him it was Hansen. Alvarez almost came to tears explaining to the Japanese crowd whose respect and hearts he grabbed. His fiance was in tears as you could see just how bad Alvarez wanted to go on and win this tournament. He gave the utmost respect to Hansen, who after beating Shinya Aoki remarked he wanted his first title defense to be against Alvarez. So lets hope by Dream 6 or 7 we will be able to see a rematch and another action packed fight. Dream's future Lightweight bouts are looking as if there will be top notch fights for years to come. People forget very easily JZ Calvancante may be waiting in the wings once he returns from injury for one if not both him and Hansen. Even if this was Alvarez's last fight at Dream because he is also slated to fight for EliteXC here in the states KJ Noons, Nick Diaz and the rest of their lightweights will have one hell of a competitor on there hands to deal with. There is no doubt this fight raised Alvarez's profile and will put him into the top 10 rankings if not top 5 the next time WAMMA releases their rankings.
