Mark Hunt (5-3) who has not fought in a MMA bout since his submission loss to Fedor at New Years Eve almost 2 years ago was rumored in late June to be fighting at Dream 5. Fans of the massive Hunt will be happy to know that he finally has an opponent after his original opponent Jerome LeBanner pulled out of the July 21 card. Le Banner was originally set to face Mirko Cro Cop who also pulled out of the card needing surgery to heal some longtime ailments. It appears Hunt will be fighting another former Pride stand out in Alistair Overeem according to
The fight network.
The Dutch born Overeem will be looking to improve to 2-0 under the newly formed Dream banner, he recently dismantled Tae Hyun Lee (1-2-0) at Dream 4. Overeem also recently defeated Paul Buentello at StrikeForce last year for the promotions Heavyweight Championship. The two wins are his first back to back wins since beating Sergei Kharitonov and Sanjin Kadunc in 2006. Overeem is best known for beating such fighters as Shogun Rua and Chuck Liddell in the first half of their matches only to be knocked out in spectacular fashion in the end. Overeem has always been a step away from becoming a solid fighter to becoming a great one. This fight should prove to be interesting as both fighters first discipline are Kickboxing and known for stand up battle inside the ring.
