UFC 85: Bedlam fight to watch, Marcus Davis VS Mike Swick.
Marcus Davis is on a 12 fight win streak and is now emerging as a top contender in the UFC's stacked welterweight division. He is fresh off a TKO win at UFC 80 over Jess Liaudin, his 3rd overseas and his 2nd in England. Davis is quickly becoming a crowd favorite in England and the joy is mutual. After his win at UFC 80 Davis said in his post fight interview "I want to buy a house out here!". To the English crowds delight. His opponent at UFC 85 Mike Swick is also coming off a controversial decision win over Josh Burkman. His first fight at 170 pounds after dropping from the middleweight division (185 pounds). Both Swick and Davis love to stand and bang but with different styles. Swick with a pinpoint right jab which he uses to pick his opponents apart from a distance. Davis packs power from both hands and hits for power and KO victories.
Swick's jab is not to be underestimated either in his last fight at 185 pounds he almost finished off Yushin Okami at the end of the 2nd round. Some people believe had there been 10 to 20 more seconds in the fight Swick would have won by stoppage. Swick trains with American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) along with fellow welterweights Josh Koscheck and Jon Fitch who helped him with his takedown defense in his previous fight with Josh Burkman. This should help him now even more if Davis decides to use a ground and pound strategy.
Davis on the other hand trains with Mark Delagratti who specializes in training fighters boxing defense and opponent specific gameplans. In Davis's last fight he credited Delagratti with the win because of a strategy he devised for watching Liaudin's left hand. This makes me wonder how will Davis be prepared for Swick's jab?
This match up has fight of the night or knockout of the night written all over it. Either way this is a fight you can't miss without it being considered MMA Blasphemy.
UR Punishment for missing this fight and being a MMA Blasphemer. Arm Wrestle Marcus Davis's mother (who he claims PWned everyone in his neighborhood 400 times) with a spike on the side your hand would fall on if you lose. Take that for missing a event.
