UFC 85:Bedlam fight predictions and picks

Thiago Alves (20-4) Vs Matt Hughes (43-6)
Matt Hughes is bouncing back from his second straight loss to current Welterweight Champion Georges St.Pierre. Hughes the long time reigning former UFC welterweight Champion is getting older (34) and this is his chance to prove he can still hang with the younger talented fighters in his weight class. Thiago Alves is coming off of his 5th straight win and is 7-2 in the UFC. His last win came over Karo Parisyan at Ultimate Fight Night 13. Alves hit Parisyan with a knee that folded him in half and knocked him unconscious for a TKO victory. Some people feel the fight was a premature stoppage, others feel it was justified. Either way Alves with a win is one step closer to a UFC Welterweight Championship match with a win over Matt Hughes.

Narcisist's pick - Hughes by Ground and pound. I am yet to see Alves show he can hang with someone with strong wrestling skills on the ground.

Nelo's pick - Hughes by split decision.I don't see Alves outmuscling Hughes on the ground.
style="color:#990000;">Michael "The Count" Bisping (16-1) Vs Jason "Dooms"Day (17-5)
Michael Bisping looked great in his last fight at 185 pounds, he destroyed Charles McCarthy in the clinch with knees to his body and every where else he could land them. Even when McCarthy covered up he was getting hit with knees to the forearms. He looked as if might be able to take on Anderson Silva the same night. Bisping's first opponent was Chris Leben who is a pretty straight forward fighter. He comes in stands and throws until you or him go down, no strategy needed just a good Boxing game and cardio. This is why I believe Jason Day is a very dangerous opponent for him. Day is very well rounded and finishes fights 8 of his wins are by T/KO and 8 are by Submission only 1 decision. On his current win streak out of 5 in a row 3 of those fighters are UFC veterans, so Bisping is not a major leap in talent.

Narcisist's pick -Jason Day will win this fight by submission, Bisping has a tendency of thinking he will just show up and win when he fights in England.
*My upset pick of the night*

"

Nelo's pick- Bisping by TKO 2nd Round. I see Bisping bringing his new found high energy style from his previous bout with Charles McCarthy at UFC 83 and steam roll through Jason Day.

The "Irish Hand Grenade" Marcus Davis (19-4) Vs Mike "Quick" Swick (11-2)

This earlier in the week was my fight of the night pick because of the contrasting styles and quality of the two fighters. Both Fighters are coming off of wins and are UFC veterans who are looking to move a step closer to Georges St.Pierre Welterweight belt. Swick is 6-1 in the UFC and won his last fight over Josh Burkman in a lackluster Majority decision. This will be his second fight at 17o pounds and we are sure he is looking to have a better showing this time around. Davis on the other hand can make this a statement fight and show he is ready for a Karo Parisyan, Josh Koscheck or a Thiago Alves quality opponent.

Narcisist's pick - Mike Swick by decision, I like Davis but I have not seen his ground game yet. Swick has shown in the past he can tapout fighters as well as knock them out.

Nelo's pick- Marcus Davis by KO 2nd Round. I don't think Swick will even try to take Davis to the ground just because of his reach advantage. Therefore;that will be Swick's downfall.

Nate "The Great" Marquardt (29-7) Vs Thales Leites (12-1)
This is a close fight in every single way you can look it Marquardt is a ground specialist and So is Leites. Neither man has great stand up but can improvise on there feet when need be. Right now this is looking like a fight that will be a Jiu-Jitsu clinic in the making. The fighter who uses ground and pound and gets the most dominant positions will win.

Nelo's pick- Marquardt by TKO strikes Round 1. After losing to Anderson Silva at UFC 83 Marquardt was impressive at UFC 82 by destroying Jeremy Horn.I see "The Great" repeat that against Leites.
Narisist's pick - Marquardt by decision.

Fabricio Werdum (10-3-1) Vs Brandon "The Truth" Vera (8-1)
Fabricio Werdum came in to his last UFC fight as a underdog against Gabriel Gonzaga. What many people did not know was Werdum had alreay beaten Gonzaga earlier in his career by TKO. He had also beat him in a grappling Tournament in Brazil and took first place while Gonzaga took second place. Werdum needed to improve his striking and did so by training out of the legendary Chute Boxe academy in Brazil. Brandon Vera is coming off of another long lay off after injuring his hand in his last loss to former UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia at UFC 77. Vera known for his striking and agressive style fighting which should make this interesting with Werdum's improved striking. Vera even after his loss to Sylvia is still 5-1 in the UFC and maybe a step closer to a title shot with a win over Werdum.

Narcisist's picks - Vera by T/KO, I think Werdum is a good grappler but Vera is a good striker and that is when where we saw him freeze up against Arlovski.

Nelo's pick- Vera by Unanimous Decision. This will be a hard fought battle between the two,but Vera is a little more well rounded than Werdum which will put him a step closer to a heavyweight title shot.
