Wanderlei Silva recently broke his 3 fight losing streak (over a 2 year span) with a win over Keith Jardine at UFC 84:ill Will. The win he needed came within a minute after entering the Octagon. It was fast - paced violent and left his opponent out cold waiting for medical assistance. It was what we had come to expect from Wanderlei ever since his days in Pride when he was the most violent middleweight in their history. We had been waiting for the win to break the streak and start a new streak of wins and fallen opponents in his wrath towards a UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. The win sparked interest and debate over Silva's next opponent, there was talk of a possible 3rd fight with Rampage Jackson. The fight now seems in jeopardy as the former champion is recovering from alleged mental health issues. On a recent edition of Tagg radio.com Silva confirmed he is being prepared for a December fight against an unknown opponent.
"I'm talking with (UFC co-owner) Lorenzo (Fertitta), They're talking about December because it is the best event of the year. (Antonio Rodrigo) Nogueira is going to fight (Frank) Mir for the belt for the heavyweights. This is the best event. It's much more promotion. They told me to be ready to fight in December. Silva said he doesn't yet know who he will face on the card. They gave me 10 (possible) names. My division is the best division in the world. They have so many names. I think they're going to give a good opponent to me." Quoted from MMAjunkie
Silva also confirmed that he wanted to fight Rampage in a third fight during the interview as well. This should prove to be one hell of a card we can only imagine to possible opponents that Joe Silva and Dana White are going to line up for this unnamed card. As of right now there are many possible opponents in the light heavyweight division after upcoming fights. Every card had well matched up 205 pound fighters going against each other and will have ramifications on the future of the division. We all would love to see a 3rd fight with Rampage, but the chances seem unlikely right now. The possibility of fighting Sokoudjou, Luiz Cane, Brandon Vera, Lyoto Machida, Thiago Silva are all ones that will bring a smile to any MMA fans face. As well as their $44.99 into the UFC's pockets in a heartbeat. We will let you know the second we find out who his opponent is.
