As we all know every MMA fan wants to see Randy Couture and Fedor fight, every time we have gotten close to the fight something has gone wrong. Fedor did not sign with the UFC after the Zuffa buyout of Pride FC in the beginning of last year. Both Dana White and Fedor have been critical of each others demands. Dana White claimed Fedor's manager was only looking to promote M-1 and better themselves. Fedor claimed the contract the UFC presented was not a fair one with its stipulations and clauses. A week ago Fedor's manager told Fightline he would still like to make the fight happen in the UFC, but it would be up to them to make it happen. We all thought it was just more of the usual talk and no one really took it as a serious offer. Now in the wake of Randy Couture's legal battle and denial for a motion to have the trial take place in Texas. MMAPayout.com is reporting that both Couture and Fedor's managment teams have been at meetings in Los Angeles this week. "The purpose of the informal summit is not entirely clear, but one logical goal of the meetings could be the development of a collective strategy moving forward in order to insure that the fight takes place, sooner rather than later.
Adding intrigue to the meetings are recent statements from both parties, as well as the UFC, publicly indicating a willingness to discuss resolving their respective differences in order to have the fight take place in the Octagon, perhaps by the end of the year." As we all know this would be a major pay per view sales driven event as Fedor also has fans here in the US, Japan and also in Europe were the UFC has wanted to expand its brand. There is no doubt after the recent comments Couture has made about the UFC dragging out the legal process in court, that he wants to make this fight happen now. The only problem is the UFC will not give Fedor a one fight deal with millions of dollars and walk away into another promotion. Affliction now has to face losing the greatest heavyweight of all time after one fight the UFC will not leave wiggle room for the same. Both sides will have to negotiate in good faith and really be willing to make this happen as both of their demands are pretty high. Lets hope what is best for mixed martial arts prevails and this fight finally happens this year.
