UFC 90 - Fabricio Werdum vs Junior "Cigano" dos Santos, Werdum signs new deal.

Fabricio Werdum (11-3) who is coming off a win at UFC 85 over Brandon Vera has signed a new deal with the UFC according to an interview he did with Tatame. After a terrible debut fight against Andrei Arlovski at UFC 70 that turned into a "Slap fight" for Werdum, he has bounced back with two impressive wins. One of which came over long time rival Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 80 in England.

Now Werdum will face a new challenger in the Octagon at UFC 90 in Chicago according to a report from sources close to MMA Junkie. Where he will take on UFC new comer Junior "Cigano" dos Santos (6-1). There is little doubt that Werdum is being groomed for a title shot as rumors surfaced he would get one even before he took the ring at UFC 80. Werdum has fought some of the worlds best Heavyweights including current UFC heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in Pride where he lost a close decision. Werdum commented on a possible future fight in his interview with Tatame as well.

"I wanna be the UFC heavyweight champion. A final (fight) against "Minotauro" (Nogueira) would be like a dream. It would be great for me because I fought against him (in) PRIDE, and it was a great fight. He deserved the victory."

It seems as if a possible fight for the belt will have to wait after Nogueira defends his belt against Frank Mir later on this year after the finale of The Ultimate Fighter 8. Even no date has been confirmed we are sure that we will hear something soon on a confirmed date for the fight as soon as the UFC begins to plan the event probably in December.
