Tim Sylvia left the UFC for bigger and better things outside the Octagon so he could make more money and fight more throughout the year. In an interview Sylvia said he would love to fight six times a year if possible. His last appearence was a tough loss to current UFC Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, a fight in which Sylvia was winning with a variety of punches until he made a mistake and got caught in a guillotine choke and tapped out to the clever veteran. In the co - main event the former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar fought and lost to current number 1 contender and former UFC HW Champion Frank Mir. Brock Lesnar made $250,000 to show and would have received a winners bonus as well. The man he lost to Frank Mir earned $80,000, $40,000 to show and $40,000 to win. Tim Sylvia earned $100,000 to show and possibly would have earned another $100,000 to win. The winner of the UFC HW Championship Nogueira earned $200,000, $100,000 to show $100,000 to win.
In a recent interview with Fightline.com Sylvia expressed his frustration with what he was paid and what Brock Lesnar was paid saying "I think once again, he’s a guy who it’s not fair to come in and be the co-main event. To have one fight and get half a million, it’s not fair to guys like me and guys like (Antonio Rogerio) Nogueira. I know why they try to do this? To get more fans? But, there are guys out there who have been loyal to the sport and when stuff like this happens it’s like a slap in the face."
Obviously this must have played a part in his decision to ask the UFC for his unconditional release so he may become a free agent. Do you think Sylvia is right or do you think he has no right to bash Brock Lesnar for what he made at UFC 81 and how much the UFC pays him? Would you like to see a possible match between the two fighters?
