Patrick Cote gets middleweight title shot

The co - main event which featured Patrick "The Predator" Cote and Ricardo "Big Dog" Almeida wasn't much of a #1 contender matchup for the UFC Middleweight Championship, but it was Cote who gained the split decision victory over the Gracie Jiu Jitsu specialist Almeida and will now get a title shot once after Anderson Silva who is the current 185lb. champ takes on Yushin Okami at UFC 88: Breakthrough, but in order for that to formulate Silva would have to get by James Irvin at UFN 14 without any injuries for his fight with Okami to happen. Either way Cote does get his title shot.

UFC president Dana White had this to say about the Cote vs Almeida matchup on NBCSports.com "Patrick Cote's win over Ricardo Almeida last night was boring, but it was good enough for him to earn a title shot against middleweight killer Anderson "The Spider" Silva." Now Cote will have to wait and see what happens to Silva in the next couple of weeks.
