George St.Pierre on his UFC contract, and the Japanese are interested

If Fedor and Tim Sylvia are worth almost $1 Million per fight, what would EliteXC, Dream, Affliction or the UFC pay Georges St.Pierre (16-2) if he was a free agent? Well that is what the UFC is trying to avoid from what St.Pierre spoke about in a recent interview. As we know Affliction VP Tom Atencio recently said in a interview that there are a lot of fighters who are "Unhappy with the way they are being treated" and want "to be treated as equals not employees" that he will be looking to sign in the near future. Perhaps the talk of St.Pierre not being happy with losing a $75,000 sponsorship with Affliction once it was banned from UFC events may have some truth to it.

“Before it expires, they’ll want to negotiate because they won’t want me to be a free agent, let the Japanese get their hands on me,” St-Pierre said.
“It’s just another fight that’s being fought outside the octagon, but it’s very interesting.”
St-Pierre said he’s been able to make a living from mixed martial arts since he signed his first contract with the UFC. But three years ago, it wasn’t nearly as popular as it is now; St-Pierre said the purses have at least tripled every year.
“For me, it will be more than that. And these fights will be a determining factor not only for my career, but my lifestyle,” he said. “I want to use it to clear all the debts, the house, take some weight off my shoulders.
“You never know what will happen in life. I might get hit by a car tomorrow,” he said. “It’s important to put some money aside, and I’ve made investments. I won’t make the mistakes that many have made.”

St.Pierre is only 27 years old and has beaten the likes of Karo Parisyan, Josh Koscheck, Frank Trigg, Matt Hughes and also avenged his loss to Matt Serra. St.Pierre may have the deepest quality of wins in all of MMA besides Fedor. If he beats Jon Fitch and dominates as he has in his last few fights who is there really left to challenge him? Thiago Alves is coming in to his own but has he out grown the 170 pound weight limit? Matt Serra probably would not want to fight him again and has his sights set on Matt Hughes. Josh Koscheck has already been beaten at his own game by St.Pierre would it be any different the second time around? The most important question is what is GSP worth? Name recognition, quality wins and is under 30 how much will the UFC or another company pay for him if he becomes a free agent?
