As we all know the UFC is counter programming Affliction's debut show Banned with UFN-14 on the 19th of July by featuring Middleweight Champ Anderson Silva moving up to Light Heavyweight to face James Irvin. Some people in the business of MMA take it as a cheap shot and say it makes the UFC's efforts to appear tacky or greedy. Dana white told Kevin Iole that he is planning to make a special of some kind on the 26th of July. A week after the UFN/Affliction cards and now the same night that EliteXC will have its second show on CBS. EliteXC VP Jared Shaw says "I'm very excited actually" and that he had hoped that the special was Dana White fighting Tito Ortiz in a boxing match they were supposed to have a couple of years back. As stated this would be the 3rd time that White would go with the counter programming route as the UFC had a special on one of their marquee fighters in Chuck Liddell which aired the same night as EliteXC first show May 31 on CBS. So let's see what Dana White has in store for July 26th.
UPDATED- EliteXC Applies for a promoters license in Las Vegas aka Dana's Town to Challenge UFC on its own turf.A report indicates that EliteXC now wants to hold events in the self - proclaimed "Fight capital of the world" in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to the commissioner of the NSAC Keith Kizer he says that EliteXC has filed for a promoters license to hold future shows in the state and he feels that they would do well even though the UFC does their business including holding the majority of their shows in the Vegas strip. Kizer said "The discussion for the process of granting EliteXC a promoters license will take place in the next 45 days. Things would heat up in a hurry between EXC and the UFC should Gary Shaw get his hands on a Vegas promotions license, but that's just my opinion.
